What are the creations made of?
All charms are individually handmade by me and made primarily of polymer clay.
Secondary materials may include sterling silver, surgical steel, silver plated metals, Swarovski crystals, glass beads, glitter, wood, varnish, glue, paints and chalk (for colour). All items used are non-toxic.
Please note that all earring parts that come into contact with the ear are made of sterling silver. Surgical steel is also available - please contact me if you would like this option instead of sterling silver.
Why does the item I received not look EXACTLY like the one in the photograph I ordered from?
Most pictures are an example of the first charm I made in that style - since every charm is handmade by me, each charm will vary slightly as exact replication is impossible. All efforts will be made to ensure that the one you receive is a good replication.
Are they edible?
They may look tasty, but all Smitten products are NOT edible. Please keep away from young children and pets as they are choking hazzards.
Are they waterproof?
The Smitten charms themselves are water resistant, but please remove them before washing hands, showering or swimming. Moisture can be detrimental to silver plated metals and sterling silver. Soap and water can also weaken adhesives.
How long does it take to make each item?
It depends on the item but each one can take anywhere from one day to several days. The making of each charm involves a multifaceted process - creating the colour mix of clay (it often changes after baking), texturizing and chalking for details and shading, baking and then often more painting and glazing. Most items will also need to have loops put into it so it can be attached as a pendant, or attached to bases for rings. Items with multiple charms like bracelets will take even longer.
What happens when a custom piece of work is requested?
If you would like an EXACT version of something I've made before but only want a different colour, size or minor change, I will happily do it at no additional cost to you.
However, an extra charge will be applied for custom orders on things I don't have a prototype for as it will take time to design and perfect and it usually involves quite a bit of materials during this process. Be prepared for A LOT of questions as I narrow down details for your custom order. The additional charge starts from $10 and may increase depending on the complexity level of your custom order.
Please contact me and we can discuss details and expectations - what you'd like, what I can do, time required, etc.
Custom orders are paid for after our discussion and before work begins. I will send photos during the process so you can give approvals/change requests as well as photos of the finished piece for your approval before shipment. Custom works with multiple charms will take 1-2 weeks or more depending on level of difficulty, trials to perfect their appearance and current workload. This will be discussed and agreed upon before purchase.
